The most significant problem of the Kaljakellunta festival has always been the amount of rubbish left in and around the river by participants every year.
Although a big rubbish container has been brought to the end of the route a couple of times, a large amount of people still leave their boats, beer cans and other rubbish floating in the river or on shore.
The festival leaves a terrible mess behind each year, which causes nuisance to the locals living around the area and a cleaning bill of over 40,000€ to the council of Vantaa/Helsinki.
